Meetings 2023

December 12, 2023: at the exhibition Bad Mother with artists Niina Lehtonen Braun and Antje Engelmann and curator Katharina Schilling at Haus am Lützowplatz

Following on from the titular work "The Bad Mother" by Louise Bourgeois, the group exhibition artistically explores the expectations placed on motherhood. With mothers who are too selfish, too sexy, too self-sacrificing, too „motherly“. With mothers who do not fulfill their own expectations and whose life reality is a continuum between self-sacrifice and self-assertion. The exhibition brings together works beyond the clichéd image of family happiness and the eternally mildly smiling mother as is still prevalent not only in depictions of the supermother Mary, but also in social media images.

Afterwards christmas party with gifts and DJ-set by Alma Alooro.

June 6, 2023: at the exhibition Soil Conversation with curators Yolanda Kaddu-Mulindwa and Nisha Merit at Galerie im Körnerpark

Soil Conversation presents nine artistic propositions from South Africa and Germany, looking at the granularity of soil as material, our relationship to the ground on which we build life on and soil as bearer of memory, identity and speculative futures.

The exhibition connects two geographical points in Galerie im Körnerpark in Berlin and Johannesburg Art Gallery in South Africa. Soil Conversations unfolds itself rhizomatically through the sharing of curatorial and artistic processes on the project website, the two physical exhibitions and through textual engagements of writers from both cities.

May 16, 2023: at the exhibition THEATRUM RADIX by artist Marlene Bart at Tieranatomisches Theater Berlin

Virtual natural order between art and science: Is there a natural "order of things?"

To answer this question, humans have created a wide variety of visual systems that promise orientation and security. The virtual reality installation Theatrum Radix by artist Marlene Bart encourages us to examine this certainty in the context of the limits of visual and spatial perception. Bart transforms the auditorium of the historic anatomical theater into a walk-in encyclopedia that combines glass and plastic objects created by the artist, natural history collection items and their virtual counterparts.

Afterwards dinner together at Ristorante Cinque.

March 23, 2023: at the exhibition HAUT  Hülle, Organ Archiv with artists Yvon Chabrowski, Manja Ebert and Ivonne Theinat and curator Katharina Koch at Zentrum für Aktuelle Kunst, Zitadelle Spandau

The two C& co-founders Yvette Mutumba and Julia Grosse spoke about the ideas and challenges of the fast-growing platform. The exhibition presents works by women artists based in Berlin who explore the thematic complexity of skin. This makes the interweaving of e.g. sexism, racism, classism, ageism visible, bears witness to individual and collective archiving practices and, as sensual, resitant and at the same time vulnerable organ, becomes the starting point for artistic analysis. In this way, the exhibition counters the male-dominated location - the Citadel - with feminist counter-narratives.

Afterwards dinner together at La Bottega da Franco.
